Modules Overview
-
What is leadership, really? What makes a great leader? How can you set your team up for success?
Simon Sinek put it best when he said that we put people into roles leading those who do what they used to do, without giving them any skills on leading teams or supporting people. And we wonder why they can’t hack it. It’s not their fault!
Our first module is all about reflecting on the leader you want to be, finding a vulnerable space to identify the areas that you don’t have confidence in and working with your co-participants and training facilitator to plan a path forward. We’ll share examples of best practice, pose questions and undertake exercises to really understand what leadership is and how we’re going to build your competencies in leading your team, setting you and them up for success!
-
Make a positive impact with an insightful response! Have you ever been given feedback that doesn’t feel like feedback? Module two is all about learning techniques on how to give feedback in a way that is effective, gets results and gives both parties dignity in the process.
Feedback, like humans, comes in all types, shapes and sizes. It’s important to know what types of issues you might face, and how to tackle them. The biggest lightbulb moment for participants is realising that feedback doesn’t have to be a scary beast. In fact, sort of like having a needle in your arm, the more you hyperventilate about it the worse it’s going to be. To continue the analogies, giving feedback to someone else is sort of like seeing a spider: remember, they’re more scared of you than you are of them!
-
Master the art of Constructive Dialogue!
Module Three is all about those difficult conversations. These are the slightly more challenging older cousin of feedback. They are the conversations that are tougher to have or with the highest chance of turning sour - The ones that require additional consideration and forethought. In this module, we harness the techniques learnt in module two and add a few spanners in the works to move with agility and navigate the challenges of difficult conversations
Remember: angst before a difficult conversation isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s you as a leader showing that you take your role seriously and want to set yourself and your participant up for success.
-
They say the biggest barrier to communication is the illusion that it has taken place! Module Four is all about harnessing the tools for effective communication.
If we don’t learn from the mistakes of the past, we are bound to make them again. In our case, if we don’t carefully examine how to communicate effectively, we are likely to create missed opportunities for ourselves. Anyone can take a conversation that went well and do it all over again. Whilst you might be lucky and get two people who respond the same, learning how to tailor your communication to your recipient is an underappreciated skill we think needs to be practiced more often. This will be our focus during Module Four.
About Role Modules
“I had to make a change to one of my regular gym classes recently. I loved the class and the instructor was certainly an experienced gym-goer, but they just weren’t for me. It felt like they were too busy adding weights to show off their skills, hoping that credibility would be enough to teach me and others how to achieve a workout goal. In my case, what the instructor was lacking was not knowledge of “gymming”, but the skills needed to impart that knowledge.
This was someone whom I spent an hour with every week, and I couldn’t do it anymore. So, imagine the person you spend 40 hours with, maybe your leader in the workplace, giving you that feeling. That old adage about people leaving bad managers and not bad companies comes to mind.
But why does this happen? Why do we let people become leaders without training them to become one?
Our aim is to stop this from happening. We believe in the potential of every manager, new or experienced, to become an outstanding leader who creates value for their organisation and harmony within their team - All they need is the right training! At the end of your journey with Role Modules, you will be left furnished with a range of essential tools to set you and your team up for long-term success. Building a relationship with your facilitator – an HR Business Partner, you’ll have access to professional support and guidance throughout your partnership with Core HR!”
